Leeds International Piano Competition Welcomes Councillor Salma Arif to Board of Trustees

The Leeds International Piano Competition is proud to announce that Councillor Salma Arif has joined its Board of Trustees.

Cllr. Arif brings with her a wealth of experience in public service and cultural leadership. As the Labour & Co-operative councillor for Gipton & Harehills and the Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care, Active Leeds and Culture, she has been a passionate advocate for inclusive cultural access and community wellbeing across the city.

Her appointment marks an exciting step forward for the Competition, as it continues to broaden its reach and deepen its ties with the local community while maintaining its global standing as one of the world’s leading classical music events.

We are honoured to have Councillor Arif join our board,” said Ken Beaty, Chair of the Board of the Leeds International Piano Competition. “The partnership between the Competition and Leeds City Council is vital in helping us deliver meaningful cultural impact throughout the city. Cllr Arif’s insight and leadership will be instrumental as we continue to evolve and ensure that the Competition is not only a celebration of world-class talent but also a meaningful part of Leeds’ cultural life.

Councillor Arif commented on her new role:

The Leeds International Piano Competition is a cultural institution with a global reputation and strong local roots. I’m excited to be part of its future and to help ensure it continues to be a source of pride, inspiration, and opportunity for people across our city.
